Do You Want A Mommy Makeover?

Posted on

One of the greatest joys known to many women is giving birth. But the birthing process can wreak havoc on a woman's body, and sometimes the body does not bounce back. Fortunately, several cosmetic body surgery procedures can help restore your shape and appearance after your childbearing years. Most people refer to these procedures as a mommy makeover. What is involved in a mommy makeover, and do you need one? Read on for more information.

What Does A Mommy Makeover Include?

When the medical community started using the terminology mommy makeover, the surgical procedures usually included just the areas impacted by childbearing. These affected areas usually involved breast surgery and a tummy tuck.

Over the years, as cosmetic body surgery has become more popular, the procedures included in a mommy makeover have grown. Some processes now involved include the following:

  • Breast augmentation
  • Breast lifts
  • Tummy tucks
  • Butt augmentation
  • Circumferential Abdominoplasty
  • Liposuction
  • Thigh lift
  • Arm lift

Your specific makeover may include one or more of these procedures. Your makeover is anything you feel you need to restore or improve your body to its pre-pregnancy condition. Your surgeon can perform some of these procedures simultaneously, but others may require more than one surgery.

How Long Will Recovery From A Mommy Makeover Take?

Your exact recovery time will depend on what types of procedures your mommy makeover includes. It can take anywhere from a few weeks to a couple of months.

For example, if you have a tummy tuck, you will need someone to help care for you for several days following your surgery, but you may not be back to normal for several weeks or even months.

Your doctor will limit any physical activity for four to six weeks and may not allow you to drive for a couple of weeks following your surgery. You may also be limited in the amount of bending or lifting you can do. Bending and lifting are essential considerations, especially if you have young children in the home that may need your care.

If you have liposuction, you can return to work in as few as 5 to 7 days following your procedure. At the same time, your total recovery may take as long as three months. Recovery from other procedures may be longer or faster, depending on the procedure and your healing rate.
